It’s estimated that six million Canadians will suffer from some form of addiction in their lifetime.
Addiction is a neuropsychological disorder characterized by a relentless and powerful urge to take part in certain behaviours, or consume certain substances, often with little to no regard for the consequences associated with those behaviours.
People can be addicted to a variety of things, such as food, sex, alcohol, tobacco, and other substances. At times, these addictions can become so severe that they may cause someone to exhibit a complete lack of self-control, crippling their ability to function normally.
We understand that typically, people develop coping strategies to manage or ease the intensity of painful emotions, and we can help with those coping behaviours.
Our counsellors can help you deal with addictions through online therapy services and in-person addictions counselling in Victoria and Langford, B.C. They have experience in several different modalities, so they can tailor their approach to whatever works best for you, so you can conquer your coping behaviours.
But we’re not a rehab facility, and the therapy we provide isn’t appropriate for people who are dealing with major substance misuse or process addictions, such as gambling. If you are dealing with these kinds of issues, please click here for more information.
