Josipa Katinic
Registered Clinical Counsellor
MA, SEP, EFT, EPC, IEC

Throughout my life, it’s always been easy for people to open up to me, so becoming a Registered Clinical Counsellor just seemed like the natural path to take.

At the same time, I’ve always loved building authentic relationships, talking to people, celebrating their success, and being there for them through the hardest of times so they don’t have to feel alone.

But after earning my Master’s in Counselling Psychology, I started to notice some of the things that are lacking in conventional forms of counselling.

Typically, these kinds of counselling don’t focus on goals or strategies for clients to make meaningful changes in their lives, they try to impose stringent behavioural changes on clients instead of helping them find their own ways to cope, and oftentimes, they don’t even attempt to get to the root causes of clients’ problems, so I wanted to create a counselling service that addresses these issues.

That’s why I ensured that our services here at TalkOnline Counselling are designed to help clients have a deep understanding of their afflictions, and how they’re affecting their lives, while offering them personalized, long-term solutions to help them conquer whatever it is they’re dealing with.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from UBC, and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from City University, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor, so your extended health insurance may cover my services.

Fun Facts About Me

My favourite board games are Scrabble and Trouble. I (unknowingly) created genograms for my  favourite book series as a child. One of my bucket list items is to go on a surf and yoga retreat. In my spare time I like to read and spend time with my family.

I work with individuals aged 20-70 who are dealing with a wide variety of issues, including:

  • Boundary setting
  • Disordered eating
  • Attachment injury
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Transitioning to adulthood
  • Transitioning to retirement
  • Treatment-resistant depression
  • Recovering from childhood trauma
  • Self-harm/non-suicidal self-injury (cutting, burning, hurting oneself on purpose)

I also help couples who want to optimize their relationship, or are struggling with issues, such as:

  • Being on the brink of divorce
  • Dealing with affairs or other forms of betrayal
  • Ambivalence (one person being more interested in the relationship than the other)

In addition to my academic credentials, I also hold several professional certifications, including:

  • Certified Practitioner of Internal Family Systems (IFS)
    • Level 1 – Introduction with Paul Ginter
    • Level 2 – Deepening and Expanding with Pamela Krause and Tamala Floyd
    • Level 2 – Shame, Anxiety and Depression with Richard Shwartz and Martha Sweezy
    • Level 2 – Intimacy from the Inside Out (Relational Therapy) with Toni Herbine Blank

I weave together a unique style of therapy that addresses past trauma, current relationships, and body-focused strategies under an attachment diagnostic lens to help you get to your goals quickly, and I believe processing time, insight, pattern reorganizing, and safety are all important elements in a therapeutic relationship.
