Cheryl Hopson Blake

Welcome! I’m Cheryl, and I’m here to support you on your journey towards healing and personal growth.

Who Am I?

I’m not just a counsellor; I’m a compassionate listener, a supportive wife, a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother, and someone who deeply understands the complexities of life. My diverse range of roles and experiences has shaped me into the person I am today. I’ve traversed diverse paths, from assisting individuals confronting multiple disabilities in institutional environments to supporting individuals reintegrating into the community after involvement with the justice system. As a Human Resources Manager, I’ve helped individuals navigate their career paths, offering support and guidance every step of the way.

What Can I Do For You?

I’m here to meet you where you are, providing a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without fear. Together, we’ll find the approach that best suits your unique needs, whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, or any other challenges life has thrown your way.

Fun Facts About Me

I grew up in Quebec. I learned French and Spanish in university. I love reading mysteries and doing puzzles. I enjoy exploring, and growing, potted gardens. I enjoy walking in nature and outdoor yoga.

My Approach:

I believe in embracing the whole you – your culture, gender, age, and abilities. With empathy, authenticity, and vulnerability, I create a collaborative and respectful environment where you can feel heard and understood. Drawing from evidence-based theories and therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS), I tailor my approach to address your specific concerns.

Challenges I Support:

Some concerns that I may be able to help you with include, but are not limited to:

  • Anxiety – Anxiousness or worry about events in your life, other people, or the world in general
  • Stress – Stressing about work-related matters, family, or life events that may cause poor sleep hygiene, poor diet, or physical concerns
  • Depression – Low energy, loss of interest in things that were once joyful, hopelessness, and extreme sadness
  • Relationships – Concerns about your relationship, which may be attributed to things like finances, communication, infidelity, or life changes
  • Health – Emotional concerns relating to daily struggles with health and pain management, or life-changing medical events such as a stroke, COVID-19, etc.
  • Self-Esteem – Seeking ways to shift your self-talk away from negativity, criticism, and self-blame, stop being a people pleaser, or work on boundaries to increase self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Grief and Loss – Seeking understanding and strategies related to the emotions and physical sensations you are experiencing from grief and loss
  • Childhood Issues – Working on concerns from your childhood that continue to affect you today

Education & Credentials:

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta and a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
