Discovering Your Attachment Style Through the Dynamic Maturational Model (DMM)

At our TalkOnline Counselling, we offer the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI), an in-depth assessment based on the Dynamic Maturational Model (DMM). This model provides a comprehensive understanding of how individuals manage relationships, safety, and danger in their world, offering insight into the 23 attachment subtypes and their combinations beyond the traditional four attachment styles: Secure, Anxious, Avoidant, and Disorganized.

What is the Adult Attachment Interview?

The AAI is a structured interview designed to assess your relationship with attachment figures over your lifetime. By analyzing these interactions, we can map out how you navigate emotional challenges, safety, and relationships.

Who Can Benefit?

Whether you are seeking personal growth, working on your relationship, or navigating something else, the AAI offers a clear roadmap for understanding your core emotional strategies.

Individuals: Gain insights into your attachment strategies and unresolved traumas, and develop a roadmap for future therapy.

Couples: Uncover core beliefs that impact your relationship, and work towards greater understanding and harmony within the couple system.

What the AAI is Not

It’s important to note that the AAI is not therapy. While it may be a useful tool in setting the agenda for future therapeutic work, the interview itself is solely for generating a detailed attachment coding.

What to Expect

The AAI involves a virtual interview, conducted via Zoom, lasting 2-3 hours in one sitting. During the interview, we ask a set of predetermined questions, covering important relationships and life events. This interview is recorded but will only be used for the purpose of official coding by a certified coder. Your privacy is always maintained. Ensure that you are in a quiet, private space for the duration of the interview. The interview must be completed in one uninterrupted session.

Scoring

The recording is sent to an experienced coder, certified through the Family Relations Institute, who completes the official scoring. This ensures an unbiased assessment, which will then be shared with you during a follow-up session to discuss the results.

Fees

Initial Interview Fee: $2,500 CAD (plus applicable taxes)
Official Coding: $500.00 CAD
Feedback Session: Billed at your interviewer’s regular hourly rate (50-minute session)

AAI Testimony

“I discovered the importance of secure attachment strategies while completing a course on Interpersonal Neurobiology. I learned that my parenting and marriage were directly impacted by how I experienced attachment to the main caregivers in my life as a baby. In order to heal childhood wounds, I would need to complete the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI), so that I could fully understand what strategies I had been using, that no longer served me as a partner and mother. I assumed the journey to finding a therapist would be easy, but to my surprise many have not been trained in the Adult Attachment Interview in Canada. I found Josipa after contacting a therapist in the UK who connected me to her as one of few in Canada trained to administer the AAI. I met Josipa and have never looked back.  Josipa took all of me – my secrets, deepest fears and regrets, and all the mistakes I’ve made in my marriage and parenting, and held me safe under her caring but direct guidance and support. Amazingly, she did this with my husband as well, who needed a therapist who sees and understands men from an attachment perspective and from a compassionate standpoint.  She has impacted our home, our marriage and most importantly our little Boys, in that we now connect, we take time to just be together, and then we all work through issues  – she continues to teach us and direct us using the knowledge she gained from our individual AAI’s. The sessions are focused and directed at what we need, BECAUSE we did the AAI’s with her – we spent the time and resources upfront, as opposed to spending many sessions trying to get to know each other before the therapist can guide us to what we need.  The AAI is a process of self discovery and is worthwhile and life changing.”
