Our online counselling services offer a unique mix of therapy and coaching, with a focus on getting to the root cause of your problems. This allows you to avoid white-knuckling your way through behavioural changes, and helps you to reach your goals and become self-led by gaining a deep understanding of your afflictions and coming up with solutions that feel like second nature.
We believe our clients are experts on their own lives, and we make a point of doing things in a non-pathologizing way, while being well-versed in many different modalities, so we never have to use a one-size-fits-all approach, and can address the unique needs of every client in the best possible way.
We employ several experienced counsellors, each with their own specialties, and in addition to our virtual counselling services, we also offer in-person counselling in Victoria, British Columbia. The modalities we specialize in include, but are not limited to:
Individual Therapy
Also known as psychotherapy or talk therapy, individual therapy allows us to work one-on-one with our clients to help them overcome their issues in a confidential, compassionate, and safe setting.
Adult Attachment Interview
The AAI is a structured interview designed to assess your relationship with attachment figures over your lifetime. By analyzing these interactions, we can map out how you navigate emotional challenges, safety, and relationships. This service is valuable for individuals and couples.
Couples Counselling
No matter what the problem might be, couples counselling allows us to help our clients improve their relationships, resolve conflicts, and overcome issues with their partners by coming up with mutually beneficial solutions.
Existentialism and Narrative Therapy
Narrative therapy looks at counselling through a social justice-focused lens, considering the role that oppressive forces can play in clients’ lives, and how that contributes to their mental health struggles.
Existentialism, on the other hand, helps clients come to terms with big, philosophical concepts, like the meaning of life, or what happens when we die, and offers strategies to endure the emotions associated with these anxieties.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a modality that recognizes the self as being made up of various different parts, all operating simultaneously, including wounded parts, protector parts, and what are known as “firefighters”.
It helps clients to recognize and understand these various parts of themselves, giving them the perspective they need to understand the origins of their issues and live a self-led life instead of a part-driven life.
Using the modalities listed above, along with many others, our counsellors are capable of helping clients with practically any issue. However, we do have several clinical specializations, including:
Trauma
The concept of trauma is relatively new in the field of psychology, so many counsellors are not well-versed in it, and as a result, a lot of them don’t even want to acknowledge its effects, or take on clients who’ve experienced trauma.
But from our perspective, trauma is one of the root causes of why someone behaves or feels the way they do, which is why we put a focus on trauma, and appreciate the effect that traumatic events can have on your mental health.
Anxiety and Depression
One out of every eight Canadians will experience depression at some point in their lives, and more than one in ten will suffer from anxiety.
These afflictions can be downright debilitating, depending on their severity, but our individualized approach allows you to get to the bottom of your depression or anxiety, and conquer it once and for all, no matter where it stems from or how severe it may be.
Addictions
People develop addictions for a variety of reasons, whether it’s to regulate emotions, escape from reality, deal with trauma, or something else entirely, and these behaviours tend to be quite harmful.
Our unique approach allows us to help you get to the root causes of your addictions, and learn how to get back in flow, and feeling good, so you can kick destructive habits and properly function again.
Relationship Health
We take an unorthodox, albeit highly effective approach to couples counselling, which looks at relationship health through the lens of trauma by considering how clients’ trauma-inspired behaviours interact with those of their partners.
Unlike conventional couples counselling, instead of just addressing problematic behaviours, and suggesting different ones, this method allows us to get to the root cause of where the problems are coming from so they can be fully understood and dealt with for good.
Male Shame and Anger
Whether it’s an outward expression of anger, such as abusive behaviours, or an inward suppression of that anger, such as substance abuse, many men deal with anger issues, and this can create feelings of shame.
We can help you to deal with these feelings and behaviours by helping you get to the root cause of your anger, so you can understand why you act the way you do, and develop strategies to put an end to your destructive behaviours, so you can stop feeling guilty.
Food and Body Image Issues
In today’s diet-obsessed and thin-privileged culture, food and body image issues are becoming increasingly normalized, despite their destructive effects.
Conventional methods for dealing with these issues tend to try to force behavioural changes, but we prefer to tailor our counselling services to your unique needs, while searching deep into your life, and your past, in order to determine the root cause of these problems.
